Mechanisms for Protecting the Right to Privacy and Personal Data on Social Networks

Abstract:
A whole array of questions arise regarding functional, organizational and security aspects of data privacy protection. Given the fact that computer crime has become a transnational problem triggering impacts that reach far beyond the borders of any singular country, it is clear that the mechanisms to combat this type of crime should not merely focus on the changes of national criminal legislation, but should also involve undertaking of appropriate technical, structural and educational measures, as well as adoption of relevant international technical and legal instruments and ways of raising awareness regarding the importance of information that can potentially generate the emergence of computer misuse activities. Each user of the Internet and particularly of social networks can contribute to the combat against computer crime by complying with the prescribed rules of behavior in the virtual world of the Internet. Successful prevention of misuse of social networks is exceptionally important because this type of crime causes grave and often irreparable consequences.
