Mathematics epistemology in the digital age

Abstract:
This talk will survey the techniques and aides related to the learning of mathematics in the past three centuries, in order to make an analysis of the same that is available in the digital age. It will deal with two aspects of the epistemology of mathematics education: 1. How is mathematics learnt and how is it known in the 21st century? How do the pupils in secondary schools learn about mathematics from the internet? and 2. What changes to the learning of mathematics bring the digital technologies and their multi-layered ways of presenting information? The talk will focus on the lesson to be learnt from existing resources in the learning of mathematics in the digital age, in particular so that mathematics educationalists can make active contribution to this area of knowledge and its construction.
